Te Anau hotels & places to stay

From Lake Te Anau you can visit the Milford Sounds, which are around 90 minutes drive from Te Anau. On the way you will find so many spot to marvel at, that you should calculate more time than 90 minutes to get there. In Te Anau you should not miss buying "pies" at Miles Better Pies. Their selection is incredible. They are very friendly and chatty as well. There are lots to see and to discover. Next time we will plan a longer stay to go up to the mountains and to walk one the beatiful tracks around Milford.

one of the best place we stayed at during our trip to nz. were supposed to pass by te anau en route to milford sound on the 12th, before returning back for a night's stay at te anau on the 13th. however, the road to milford sound was closed due to an avalanche and we enquired if they could put us up for an additional night. not only did the friendly receptionist find us a room, she upgraded us to the marakura studio which were brand new units. the rooms were clean, spacious and had a breathtaking view of the lake. the kitchenette was well equipped and came with a microwave and electric hob. complimentary wifi was a big plus and the reception had plenty of information regarding the local attractions/activities. central location and a 5min drive from the town centre. would definitely stay again if we ever return to te anau.

we had a very pleasant stay at the distinction in te anau, looking at the many different options on agoda we decided to chose the distinction and when we arrived i realized we had made the best choice. the staff is friendly and overly obliging in every way. we had a lake front room which was very well appointed and comfortable. we enjoyed the bar area and the free wifi in the lobby. we stayed for 2 nights and didn't ask for service so the chamber maids left us soap and towels outside our door while we were away.

When we couldn't get through to Te Anau due to heavy snow and road closures the manager (Kathy) was kind and reassuring. "Don't worry, take your time, no problem..." she was flexible and friendly, it might have been more difficult in peak season but when plans and bookings began falling like dominoes it was a relief. Arrived to a warm place with spotless bathroom. A short walk to town along the lake front. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend or stay again. Thank you Kathy Chris Sidney

We stayed here for our visit to Milford Sound and was very happy with it. the ground was beautiful we were near many good hiking routes. Oh and YEAH they have good and FREE internet (our last place's internet was rubbish). One thing we loved was the well-equipped kitchenette. We got ample crockery, a microwave, stove, kettle, fridge and even an electric frying pan - made that "wannabe" kitchenette at our last hotel looked pathetic really... I was very blessed to be travelling with 2 guys who cook fantastically. We ate really well every day! There was also convenient parking right outside our door. I would recommend this motel for anyone planning a drive to visit Te Anau and Milford Sound.

It was a great experience eventhough we only stayed for one night. We had a pleasant suprise when we checked in, a warm welcome and a little hallowen trick or treat suprise. The room was well kept, tidy and clean. It was a big place too, the location was perfect and within walking distance to town and lake for morning walk. We really hope to stay a bit longer and have more time in Te Anau. Really recommend this place to be the first choice to stay in Te Anau!

It is a very good choice for staying here in Te Anau. The staff was friendly and the room was clean. It was easy to get everywhere in Te Anau from this hostel. The kitchen in my room was easy to use and the hot water in my bathroom was stable. Much information was available in a pamphlet in my room. Every pick-up service was familiar with here so it was easy to book all trips around. However, the sound-proof was terrible. If some people stayed next to you kept chatting until midnight, you would have to listen to them instead of falling asleep.

We spent 3 nights in Te Anau, which got us an upgraded room. The hotel caters to 1 night bus tour stays. That said, it was nicer than we expected it to be. Hotel is middle of the road, but clean and comfortable with a good location. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We would stay again if the price was right compared to the competition. We ate dinner in their restaurant, and liked that they have a value menu.

We decided to stay in Te Anau during the last minute as we felt travelling from Queenstown to Milford Sound was very far. As soon as we landed in queenstown we drove straight to Te Anau. The receptionist and owner Ms. Shona was very welcoming and she helped us with information on where to find food and how to go to the tourist kiosk of Southern discoveries in Te Anau. She also gave us a jar of fresh milk and helped us check in late also. There is ample parking space and they are also upgrading the buildings. Ms.Shona and her husband were amazing people. Will recommend parklands motel to everyone who is driving to Te Anau and need an overnight stay.

The host are super nice, we also had a chance to meet them again by coincidence in front of a supermarket when we got back from milford. The room is very clean, comfy and had everything you need as a traveller. Microwave, toaster, refrigerator, hairdryer, room heated. The room have 1 single bed and 1 doublebed so it can fit 3 adult people. Definitely will staying here again if going to te anau again. Thanks

Staying at the lovely Blue Thistle Cottages really centered our amazing visit to Te Anau. We were so awed by Lake Te Anau and exploring the Glowworm Caves and the drive to Milford and the Milford Cruise and being able to return in the afternoons and evenings to Blue Thistle Cottage allowed us to soak in all that was amazing about that area. The Cottages are well appointed, with quality linens and comfortable beds. The owners are very friendly and approachable with good communication leading up to our stay. Best of all is the peaceful, pastoral setting of the cottages, with amazing views over the Lake and to the mountains. What a stay.

We booked and requested for Lake View family room. And what a view we got of Lake Te Anau! Our apartment was on the 1st floor, with large windows looking out onto the lake. Quiet surroundings made for a comfortable and restful stay. Amenities in apartment a bit on the old side, but they were absolutely fine with us. Bathroom large, white, clean and HEATED... important in the colder months. Overall, a great place to stay. Good things come in small packages.

Te Anau Lodge is within very short walking distance to the town center. Mark is exceptional, professional, and has good sense of humor! With his kind help, my husband and I were able to get on the last-minute bookings to see glowworms and visit Milford Sound. Walking around the lodge you will get to know it’s history and see all these antique collections - absolutely amazing! Our room sits on the second floor with the stunning view of the yard where you can see a giant chess and an old train. Our room is very beautiful, clean, and comfortable. It is a pity that we only booked for one night. Wished we could have stayed longer! Te Anau has less tourists and more accessible and peaceful attractions. If you are traveling in the southern island, I would strongly suggest you to spend at least two nights in this town and book your stay at the Te Anau Lodge!

Where do I start? Well I booked this hotel by seeing a few pictures on internet and what a beautiful place! We were upgraded when we arrived to a Suite because we were the only guest (the season just started). To be honest, this is one of the best stay in a hotel in my life and I have been traveling quite a lot around the world, from the US to Asia through Europe and Oceania. This lodge is on a small hill in front of the Lake Te Anau with an amazing view on the mountains/Fiords. I already miss the surroundings and the dark sky. It is 2 hours away from Milford Sound with one of the most amazing drive in the world (waterfalls, Homer tunnel, fiords). The room (Suite) was lovely with a fire place, huge windows, spa bathroom, nice smell and everything you can desire. The fire place in the dining/leaving room is probably the biggest I've ever seen and there is a Chief to cook dinner and breakfast, just awesome. We had the privilege to have a table in front of the fire place with a very nice Pinot Noir (Black Dog). I eventually proposed my girlfriend outside this lodge as I felt it was the perfect moment to do it (was hesitating a few times during our two weeks holiday in New Zealand). Monique and then Andy were just AWESOME, we enjoyed every moment of our stay. Will definitely come back, worth it 1000 times! If you hesitate, just don't and go for it, you won't regret it!!!
