Where to stay in Tongariro National Park
Tongariro National Park hotels & accommodations

We travelled with our sister in law, 6 month old baby and 3 1/2 year old son so wasn’t sure what to expect. The perfect location for a long weekend of skiing. The weather wasn’t great but we loved our stay and the location was perfect for us. We could drive up the mountain, come back easily when we wanted and it didn’t matter if half our party stayed up they could easi...

We enjoyed our stay here to hike the Tongariro Crossing. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Be mindful of the check-in hours of this location. The spa was not working when we stayed but the laundry was helpful at $4/load. We booked bus service with National Park Shuttles, but ended up taking Adventure Lodge shuttle since they are partners - just FYI. If staying to d...

Facilities were outdated, but fine. The bathroom was a bit strange and the laundry facility was not great. If there is bad weather not much to do on National Park Village, which I did have. Would have been better to stay in one of the cities. But I can see that this would be good for a family staying longer than just a couple of nights

Hotel has a warm , cosy feel and is ideally placed for the National Park. Good food and a lovely fire made a warm welcome on this cold, wet and windy spring day. Came to see the mountains but they were lost in cloud and rain. Still, the hotel was good!

I can honestly say this is one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed. Photos don’t do it justice and that says a lot because the photos are amazing. It was so close to the National Park village yet so peaceful. The owners are so wonderful and kind and take so much pride in making sure you’re happy and by presenting a clean beautiful stay. The property is surr...

I was a solo traveler with plans for the Tongariro Alpine Crossing the next day. The reception staff was so friendly and helpful, booking my shuttle for the trip to the start of the Crossing, arranging for breakfast, and getting me oriented to the facility. My room was very clean and a great value for the money. There are great facilities for skiers, but of course I wa...

We booked a private double room with ensuite bathroom. When we came into our room, there were no towels. When we asked about that at the reception, the answer was "We don't put towels in the room. Guests must ask for it.". Strange policy! The kitchen was big enough with everything you need. Unfortunatly, tea and coffee are not provided for free. Wifi is also not ...

Excellent choice to rest before and/or after the Tongariro Northern Circuit! We did our laundry for free, which was really convenient after the tramp. Really nice staff, everything's clean. You can use the kitchen and park the car in front of the hotel. The beds were so comfortable, we loved them!

Great hostel! Lovely stuff!! Not comparable to other hostels. You can feel that the owners have put a lot of effort into room amenities. The many wooden furniture make the hostel very homey. Great is also the spa pool - the perfect reward after the Tongariro Crossing. However, you should have a car to come to the great places like the Taranaki waterfall.

Great place, great location. A modern apartment with everything you need. Good layout with the kitchen and living areas upstairs and the bedrooms, laundry and bathroom downstairs. Heated flooring, heat pump, washing machine and dryer - everything you need when you are away so you don't have to pack lots of clothes! Amazing views and close to the mountain. We had a ...

The room had everything I needed. comfortable bed, kitchen and hot shower. Hosts were friendly and efficient. However, the walls are thin and there was a lot of noise coming from the kids in the next door. The place could do with a spruce up but other than that, a great place to stay

We had such a great stay at Ruapehu Retreat! Great layout, massive kitchen, lovely and warm, clean and just everything you may need! With lots and lots of dvd's and games to play for the day when we couldn't get up the Mountain. Communication was super quick and easy too with emails. Would love to stay here again and would defiantly recommend! Thanks!
