Where to stay in Otago
Otago hotels & accommodations

Located right on the shores of the Frankton Arm , this is undoubtedly one of the best places to stay in Queenstown for a Honeymoon couple. The view from the balcony is just mind blowing. The rooms were more than what we wanted and could not ask for more. An electric fireplace , extremely comfortable beds and savories inside the Hotel. We were welcomed with a plate of d...

This was the perfect hotel for a couple who were first time visitors to Queenstown (not skiiers) who wanted a zen-like rejuvinating experience in the extreme sport mecca of the world The Sherwood's sustainable concept reminds me of the McMenamins establishments in Oregon and Washington state. Loved their yoga offerings, farm fresh dining options, sauna/massage, and t...

a wonderful hotel with great view! We think it is the best hotel during our 14-days trip. Everything is just fine. It would be flattering to say it is a 7-star hotel. But is it more than a 5-star. Maybe we are quite picky, we are not satisfied with most of the hotels during our trip. But we are quite fine with this one. Highly recommend. Shortcoming is a little far, ...

My spouse and i had the best experience in this apartment. It honestly has the best of all worlds. Value for money, Jaw dropping scenery and some of the most friendliest and most helpful staff one could come across. The apartment is situated nearby to literally everywhere. Its only a 10 minute drive from the airport and to the towns nearby. Its also nearby to lakes an...

We booked a 3 bedroom apartment at Mantra Marina. There were 7 of us in the family and all of us agreed that this was the best place we've stayed in New Zealand. Love everything about it, my mom enjoyed using the state-of-the-art kitchen too and the walk by the lake was just superb. Town centre is just 5 mons drive away.

We had a great stay at Peppers Beacon over labour weekend. The staff were friendly and helpful, the place was well presented and it felt like you were walking into a nice hotel, which is important. The room itself was perfect, very spacious & clean. The bedroom is separate from the rest of the hotel which is great & the living room is definitely big enough to relax ...

We were so happy with our 6 day stay at The Glebe in January. We stayed in the studio room which was so comfortable and beautifully decorated. We had everything in our kitchen even a rice cooker! It was the best provisioned kitchenette we have ever stayed at. They provided you with an abundance of every amenity even down to the dish soap. The ladies who run this f...

Edgewater is the most beautiful hotel we stayed in New Zealand, Situated conveniently around Lake Wanaka it has one of the best facilities to vouch for. The lakeside room have specatacular view of lake and the balcony opens up into the garden area around the lake. The rooms are big and spacious with great kitchen, dining and sitting area. The service is prompt and we h...

The location was exactly how I like - not right in the city centre (no noise, no crowd, no pollution), but very close it. By very close, I mean easily walkable. There's a short cut to reach the centre centre by foot - which is uphill (only about 100 meters or so - the rest of the way is quite flat) when you go back to the hotel but almost all of New Zealand has big ups...

If you are looking to stay in an exciting place and wants abit of peace and quiet, Look NO MORE!!!. This place will fit everything you want. Firstly the place is located in the CITY itself and seated near the gondola station which you get to see the city centre and back facing the mountains with quietness that is needed for the days of rest. Secondly the location its...

What a nice hotel. I got a large room with enough space for a king-sized bed, a living area with 2 sofas seats, a balcony, a bath-tub in the toilet, a pantry area and lots of walking space in between. Even for such a large space, it was sufficiently heated. Everywhere indoors, there's no need for warm clothing. Quite unexpected of a "boutique hotel" - or perhaps my exp...

This is a bit out of town center. A taxi into town costs $39 nzd. But you can take the bus for $5. Most of the tours I booked still picked me up from here. I loved staying here because it’s away from the crowds. It’s super clean. They have a cafe off of the lobby. There’s also a shopping center with a grocery store and other restaurants within a 5 minute walk. ...

We booked this apartment because of its location overlooking the lake. It was a good choice. Fortunately there is a lift to take your luggage up from the underground garage to the fifth floor, leaving us only a few stairs to climb to our penthouse apartment. The view from the glass doors was breathtaking and we enjoyed sitting out on the huge balcony overlooking the la...

I booked this hotel through Agoda and the price Agoda quoted was not the cost when I arrived at the hotel. Also found out that Agoda purchased this booking from Booking.com. Another huge upset being I couldn't get in touch with Agoda. I locked in the price of the room at the time of booking or so I was told that by Agoda. I also had contacted the hotel about their ...

I really wanna go back again. The hotel staff are very nice. I extend my stay and they tried their best to offer same room for me which they drop a note to my room. tour desk, Mister is also very helpful. He contacts and booked tour program for me though it's just on same day to book n go. i saw many tourists who stayed in other hotels will come to take a photo of s...

As our flight into Queenstown arrived early in the morning we transferred to this hotel expecting to just leave our bags and return later in the day. Upon arriving, the duty manager took it upon herself to liaise with housekeeping staff to have one of the two rooms we had booked ready for us within the hour. The duty manager took our mobile number and called us within ...

1)The staff we interacted with were lovely. To name a few Renin , Katalina , Michael and one lovely Finnish lady. 2) The lake facing rooms have a great view. 3) The breakfast was great. 4) Car park available. 5) Walking distance from the town center. 6) Very clean and lovely hotel. Overall probably has one of the best locations in Queenstown.

Great Hotel, just two issues. Firstly there are no ovens in the kitchenette, which is unfortunate. There is also a large Moose head on the wall near the elevator which you always have to swerve around. So not only is the owner ignorant of the views of people that see majestic animals as being best kept alive in the wild, they want to rub it in your face everytime you ...

Great location and very good accommodation. This motel was everything that we wanted it to be. Very spacious, clean, presentable and very well equipped. Close to restaurants and shop. The Otago Peninsula isa beautiful area with lots of lovely paces to visit.

we stayed in the river view suite for 2 nights. I think we were upgraded but we are not very sure but we had the Remarkable Suite for 2 nights. The room has a beautiful lake view and the room is very spacious as well. The best part is the room comes with a separate vanity area and also a beautiful bath tub which we really appreciated and loved to use. This is probably...

My 7th visit to Queenstown and the best accommodation I have had there, at a fraction of the price I've paid elsewhere. The location was superb, the room was great and very well appointed and very quiet, and I got upgraded. The staff felt like friends after a very short time. The continental breakfast was a great free inclusion and the free, very fast unlimited wifi wa...

Being a 5 star hotel, it is not cheap. Breakfast is up to expectation, but the best thing about the hotel is the convenient location. It is only a short walk to Queenstown central (Fergburger, NZOne Skydive, Cookietime shop). There is also valet parking, so it removes the trouble of finding parking in Queenstown.

Honestly one of the best hotel experiences we have ever had. The staff were incredible, so friendly and nothing was too much of a hassle of trouble. The room was devine with its decor. We loved the location. I celebrated my 30th birthday there and was made to feel incredibly special. My partner and I can't wait to come back. The ONLY downside is that the view, while i...

this is one of the best resort hotel i stayed in south island nz, overall atmosphere is fantastic, very new and impressive resort hotel with great lake/mountain view. hotel staffs were very friendly, helpful and pleasant hospitality. will highly recommend this hotel in lovely wanaka.
Cheap places to stay in Otago

Great hostel for the money. Large old house with nice views. I also got upgraded from an 8 bed to a 4 bed dorm for free which was nice. There is some wear and tear and things that could use an upgrade/fixing/replacement. The mattress was not the most comfortable and the bunk bed I was in transferred a lot of the movement of the person below me. It is a bit of an uphi...

Great stay in nice warm comfortable bed.Had a good sleep in a quiet charming place.Enjoy the great view at the roof terrace garden. Good value for money as it has all for any traveller. Big nice kitchen and plenty of space for privacy.Good free WIfi network. Place is just minutes to city center and all the great cafes and shops especially to Pak n Sav and take-aways. W...

Booked 1 night in private bunk bed room really basic but clean, hostel in the city center close to the octagon, friendly staff at the reception, free car park in the street 5 min walk to the hostel, good free breakfast, free wifi, for the price we paid and all the facilities I recommend this hostel

The hotel (hostel) is a very nice old building walkable distance from the city centre. The rooms are big, bed confortable. The building is still under renovation as it's very old but this is one of the great feeling there. The he Hungarian guy at the reception and everywhere around the hostel is super friendly and helpful (especially with Hungarian travelers). Thank...

This hostel got really nice staff so helpful and always got smile on them face, when I stayed there got the problem is heater doesn’t work but they gave me discount 20% for responsibilities, kitchen so clean and big, have tv room and the best thing is behide os hostel have supermarket so super comfy to find some food also the hostel nearly wanaka tree as well. So Aweso...

Cheap & cheerful. Great relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Basic but has everything you need, including a spa, & there's free soup in the kitchens (winter)! Stayed in a double room which was basic (bed, table, heater, rubbish bin) but cosy. Best value in town in my opinion.

Just one of the Best hostels I have ever stayed at in my 5yrs of travel and especially for New Zealand, was very happy to see it really embrace the use of Te Reo Maori, Maori art and culture, as well as it's LGBTQ friendly sign out the front. The staff were very friendly and professional, and welcoming. They were also very helpful. The lounge is spacious, clean, well s...

Stayed here for my last few days in New Zealand. Wasn't expecting much, but boy I was wrong. The property itself seemed pretty shady since it's located quite to the depth of the area but hey, some effort goes a long way. Got ourselves some pretty neat individual cabin for 2 and was astonished with the facilities provided. It's a fully-equipped cabin with pantry, a ...

To be honest, I actually hesitated booking there because of the location. I mean, if it was not about the Sea Lion Colony and Nugget Point, and Slope Point, we would've not gone to that far south side, ESPECIALLY DURING THE WINTER WITH THIS BIG RISK OF SNOWING WHEN YOU RENT A 2WD CAR. Well, that's our decision, the car but It's actually worth to stay with that long jou...

Best place in New Zealand. We stumbled across this when looking for last minute accommodation and liked the sound of the "sheep station". You can expect to get true New Zealand hospitality and to experience what life on a sheep station is like. All the facilities are clean and warm. They heat up the kitchen, bathroom and your room for you so you aren't cold. You will b...

ChillaWhile owner and staff are super friendly with lovely hostel. I had to check in late out of office hours but a lovely note from kelly was welcoming me she arranged everything to give me the best possible stay. Great staff and hosteler. I felt like home. I am looking forward to stay more nights. many thanks for all arrangements. Highly recommended to others for sur...

The view from the entrance of our room was splendid. You could walk to the town area which would be about 20-25 mins. We decided to drive instead. The cabin was great! Super clean and large for families. Kitchenette and toilet was stocked with necessities. So glad we picked two nights. One of the best accommodation across south island we had as budget travelers.

Rose is such a wonderful person and an amazing host. Her place is so comfy and just makes you feel at home as soon as you enter. Lenny her cat is so cute too .. Nice big rooms, fully furnished kitchen and neat and clean bathroom. The place is central and has a lot of cafes , restaurants and even a super market within a few 100 metres.. It’s a perfect place so look no ...

Place was great,BUT Agoda listing was very misleading. It told us that this was a self contained unit.and it wasn't .Luckily they were able to upgrade us to another uni which suited our needs..VERY DISSAPPOINTED WITH Agodas listing on this occasion, have used them before and been very happy. DUNEDIN HOLIDAY PARK WAS A GREAT FACILITY.Would definitely go back there to ...

Ok granted, we probably got lucky with the views but when i last checked my neighbour's balcony to the right and left, we all had pretty good views! :) From the check-in right to the time we checked out, the stay was 5-stars. The apartment opened up to snow-capped mountains up ahead, the kitchen was roomy for those cooking (there were 2 cooks! and 2 other nosy bystande...

The apartment was perfect for our stay, close to all the sights and a short walk into the centre of town. The staff were the best part of our stay, everyone was SO friendly and helpful throughout our 5 night stay. they booked tours and meals for us, and gave us suggestions of things to do! Id return for the staff experience alone!

I spent 3 nights at the St. James Apartments. On entry I was a little concerned, the was vaccuming going on and few people getting in or out. Specially since it is not our standard reception area like big hotels, I was a little worried. Check in was easy headed to Room 307. Actually it was a suite, two huge beds, each equipped with shower etc, then the was the kitchen ...

the hotel was everything we wanted. this was our second visit, the first was two years ago at the same time of the year, but this time we were celebrating a special 50th wedding anniversary. when we told the staff about our celebration we were met with such kindness which was excelled in our meal on valentine's night in the beautiful panoramic restaurant.we use accor h...

Coronation Inn was a pretty wooden hotel. The staff were very friendly and willing to help with any questions or additional room items. Our room consisted of a queen and full bed with enough space for three people to move around. There was no ice machine, but the front desk would provide some if more ice than the small tray in the freezer was needed. There was a bit of...

We had an interior facing room on the 6th floor, which means the window went into a space between different hotel buildings, offering no view but perfect quietness. The room was very large and clean with 2 double beds, a sitting area off to the side and a corner with the fridge/tea making facilities through which to access the bathroom. The bathroom was modern and clea...

Highly recommended! The location was great. It is just less than 5 minutes walk to go the centre. And the view from our room was amazing! The staff were very accommodating and friendly. This hotel has a kitchenette which is a plus as most of the hotels do not have this facility. We cooked our breakfast and dinner so we were able to save on cost. The location was so go...

This was my second stay at this motel. Friendly, professional staff. Room: clean, spacious, warm, beautiful view of The Remarkables and Lake Wakatipu. Well equipped kitchen. Skiing: more convenient for going to The Remarkables for skiing. Bus stop across the road.. If going skiing, the hotel location is better suited to the Remarkables than Coronet Peak. The N...

We loved our stay at blue peaks apartments, it was perfect for our group. Weeks before our stay, I kept emailing them requesting to get a lake view unit and when we got there, we had an awesome corner unit with a great view of the lake! We were all amazed! The apartment was very clean and spacious and had everything we needed, specially a good AC heater. It is fully eq...

We stayed here for 3 nights in a 2 bedroom motel room. The park is about a 5 minute easy walk to the city centre, extremely clean and the staff are so friendly and helpful. The views of the mountains from our room were beautiful. The only downside was the room was not well heated. Plenty of blankets and electric blankets, 2 heaters but still a little cold. Everything e...

We had the fortune of staying here for only one night travelling up the west coast the property is very new and immaculate as others have said better than many 5 star hotels. The true star was Matt he was so friendly and full of good tips he made us feel truly welcome and at home keep up the good work we will be back

This hotel located perfectly near the city 'hotspots' including the Dunedin Railway Station, George Street (shopping street and many restaurants), The Cadbury Factory, The Octagon, Otago Settlers Museum, The First Church of Otago... There were 2 big supermarkets (New World and Downtown) nearby so that we can safe money for food by buying foodstuffs from those supermark...

Stayed in 3 bedrooms apartment for 3 nights. Modern. Very comfortable stay.Great view. Perfect stars watching right at our balcony. Free Wifi. Big screen TV with discovery and pay TV channels ( free for us). Further away from city centre, so not crowd or noisy, but that means have to use taxi, cost about $ 12 each trip. Right by lake side, very steep to walk. narrow d...

Absolutely loved my stay here. My best friend and I (mid 20's) met up for a weekend away. The staff were friendly and helpful, we took the 7min walk to town every day and enjoyed playing fetch with Karla (the dog). Quiet little street but perfect location, 100metres to bus stops and easy 10min walk to the lake. SEE YOU NEXT TIME AMITY!

It would be great if it is cheaper! Staffs are highly effective, nice and have a good smile Facilites - 5 stars ( room 4 iron is not okay at all, please check it.) other then that, it is good spacing for car parking, coniventent for parking area which is very close to room, good sound proof from other rooms and outside, good observable lighting signal for driver to not...

The Lomond Lodge met all our expectations. We were looking for something budget but not backpacker style. We are a bit past our travel phase of sleeping in dorm rooms. The Lomond Lodge had the best location, reviews and prices that we could find through various sites. We ended up booking on Agoda and paid a night for a nice room with a lake view and a small kitchenette...

After braving the Millennium hotel and the awful Rydges hotel we checked into this hotel on the last night of our stay. A total breath of fresh air. After travelling around the Otago region for a week, we decided to splurge on a more expensive option for our last two nights in Queenstown, and I'm so glad we did! The hotel has two stunning hot tubs in a little garden with views of the mountains, which we m...

The Millbrook Resort is recommended highly. From the time we arrived, to the time we left, we had a great time. Rooms were spacious and the view of the mountains incredible. As it was a last minute booking with few choices left we were thoroughly surprised driving into Maple Lodge. It is both charming and welcoming and soothes you as you drive in. It is a great place to unwind. Thanks, Charlotte! We enjoyed our short stay.

Stunning dark wood, exposed stone work architecture. Grand interior Exclusive location (next to Glenorchy airstrip and has its own pier) Super knowledgeable and helpful staff Fun games room Owned by Ex CEO of Levis Strauss It's a brand of its own Feels like you've stepped into someone's Grand family home and they are treating you as personal guest during the stay

We came here in late August 2016 for skiing trip to treble cone and Cardrona. Does this B&B a hotel islocated within five minutes drive from the want to cut town so it's quite convenient if you want to go for grocery shopping or a go to a restaurant in town, provided you have a car. Its a wonderful experience stay there in De Lavender, compare to the high price of other hotels in Queenstown, I will definitely choose this one again. There are free car park slots, the room is big, the beds are comfortable but pillows were soft for me. The water pressure was strong and filled up the bathtub without waiting for a long time. Should you find yourself in Central Otago and in need of accommodations, you would do yourself a favor by looking up the Ardgour Strawbale Bed and Breakfast. Perfect location, amazing views and scenery, great ambiance, has all that one may not even ask for, a great collection of music with surround speakers and a wonderful fireplace with snow capped mountains in the background.. people go back smiling from here .. just brilliant!!

What a warm and friendly welcome we received from the Hosts, John and Pauline. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you both very much for making our 25th Wedding Anniversary so special. Beautiful Lodge, lovely surroundings, everything was perfect, I honestly couldn't find a thing that was not 100% perfection. We will be back
